About Chantilly
Where it is: East of Uptown, between Elizabeth and Plaza Midwood. Bounded by Independence Boulevard (US 74) on the northeast, the CSX railroad on the west and south, and Briar Creek on the east.
History: Platted in summer 1913 by the Greater Charlotte Finance and Realty Company, whose partners included future NC Governor Cameron Morrison. Most homes were not built until the late 1920s through the 1940s, and more streets were added in the 1950s.
Main commercial areas: Plaza Midwood business district (Central Ave / The Plaza) next door.
Parks and greenways: Chantilly Park, about 7 acres, county-run, at the south end of Wyanoke Ave. Chantilly Ecological Sanctuary. The Briar Creek Greenway’s Bay St to Monroe Rd phase began construction in summer 2025, with completion expected in mid-2026.
